Charleston Water System announces rate hike for water, sewer service

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Water and sewer service costs for some Lowcountry residents will be on the rise.

On Monday, Charleston Water System’s (CWS) Board of Commissioners announced that the 2022 budget and rate schedules for 2022 through 2024 were approved last week.

According to the utility, there will be overall revenue increases of 5% and 6% for water and wastewater, respectively. Additionally, wholesale municipal and subdivision water rates will go up by an average of 5% and 2.5%, respectively.

The overall revenue hikes will be effective Jan. 1 each year, while the wholesale and subdivision jumps will be effective March 1, 2022 and Jan. 1, 2023 and 2024.
