GRAND RAPIDS, MI -- The Grand Rapids Water System will continue to not shut off sewer and water service for customers who fail to pay their bills.
City officials said Thursday, April 1, they are extending the moratorium barring service cutoffs because of nonpayment through June 30.
The move comes as the state’s ban on water shutoffs for nonpayment ended March 31.
“Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and expiration of the state of Michigan’s moratorium on water/sewer shutoffs, the Water System understands that customers may not be able to make payments in a timely manner and wants to ensure continued access to clean water during this challenging time,” city officials said in a prepared statement.
