NACWA Underscores Clean Water Advocacy, Funding Priorities with Congress
(May 14, 2019) - NACWA submitted stakeholder comments last week to the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee on the need for clean water to be a top priority as part of any comprehensive infrastructure legislation during this Congress.
The comments come in response to the Committee’s ongoing work with the larger infrastructure stakeholder sector, as well as recent discussion between Congress and the White House on an infrastructure package. The comments build upon NACWA’s continued engagement with the Committee, as well as the testimony provided by NACWA members before the committee in February and March.
NACWA’s comment letter focuses on the need for Congress to advance key clean water policies to address some of the most pressing challenges faced by public utilities and ratepayers, as well as the need to maintain essential clean water services.
The comments also specifically request the need for reauthorizing the Clean Water State Revolving Fund, providing assistance for low-income households, modernizing the Clean Water Act (CWA), and providing public utilities with the flexibility and support they need to adapt to increasingly extreme weather events.
NACWA encourages all of its members to continue advocating to their respective Members of Congress the need for strong clean water infrastructure and investment legislation. NACWA will continue providing updates on relevant policies as they unfold during this congressional session.
