NACWA participated in the Region 8 Pretreatment Conference in Deadwood, SD, on May 9, with a presentation by Cynthia Finley, Director of Regulatory Affairs, on the Association’s Toilets Are Not Trashcans campaign. The presentation focused on NACWA’s advocacy related to flushable and non-flushable wipes, including improved flushability guidelines for flushable wipes and labeling for non-flushable wipes.  An agreement on new labeling guidelines for flushable wipes has recently been reached with the wipes industry, and NACWA is now assisting with state and local legislation to mandate these guidelines and adequate flushability standards.

The conference also included a presentation on the public education efforts of the City of Bismarck about proper disposal of wipes and other consumer products, as well as fats, oils, and greases (FOG).
