Congress to Extend Government Funding Through Dec. 20

Nov 13, 2019

(November 13, 2019) – Top congressional appropriators have agreed to another Continuing Resolution (CR) that will fund the federal government through December 20, 2019.  A vote is expected next week.

The current CR, which funds the government at Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 levels, expires on November 21.  An extension through December 20 will keep the federal government open and give Congress more time to hammer out final FY 2020 levels.

A number of key NACWA funding priorities, including increased levels in the CWSRF and WIFIA programs as well as funding for a new water workforce grants program, will not take effect until a final FY 2020 package is agreed to between both the House and Senate and signed by President Trump.

Although it is still unclear if Congress will be able to agree to an overall FY 2020 budget package, appropriators seem more optimistic that the extra time into December will allow for an agreement to be reached.  NACWA will continue to advocate for the Association’s priorities and keep the membership updated.  Please contact Jason Isakovic or Kristina Surfus, NACWA’s Legislative Directors, with any questions.
