The Hamilton County Water and Wastewater Treatment Authority (WWTA) has reached an estimated $300-million settlement to resolve its Clean Water Act violations.

For the last eight years, the WWTA has been working with the EPA to develop a consent decree work plan to comply with the Federal Water Pollution Control Act.

The $300-million settlement was reached with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Department of Justice (DOJ).

Natasha Long with Hamilton County Water and Wastewater Treatment Authority shared a statement with Local 3 News that says the decree enforces them to assess and rehabilitate its aged wastewater infrastructure and to eliminate sewer overflows at the Signal Mountain wastewater treatment plant.
