Bennington, Vt., reacts after tests detect PFAS in town wells

BENNINGTON, Vt. — Health and other concerns expressed Thursday in Bennington, Vt., echoed those voiced in 2016 after PFAS contamination was discovered in hundreds of private wells around two former ChemFab Corp. factories.
This time, the area of concern appears smaller, state officials said during an informational meeting, which was prompted by random statewide well tests that detected elevated levels of industrial PFAS compounds in two Bennington wells.
Contamination levels found in half of 24 follow-up well tests within two Bennington neighborhoods were above the state advisory level for drinking water. That prompted the meeting Thursday and a state/town outreach effort to test other well sites in the same general areas.
