Joint Statement by 17 Water Associations Draws Attention to the Central Role of Water for Jobs, Health, Economy, and Climate Resiliency

(Washington, D.C.) – Sunday, April 25 marked the beginning of Water Week 2021, as thousands of representatives from across the water sector come together to advocate before Congress and the Administration on behalf of the communities they serve.

Notably, this year 17 water associations have united to ensure their voice is heard.

This year’s activities are entirely virtual due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The focal point of these virtual efforts will be the Water Week Policy Zoom-In, which will take place Tuesday, April 27, from 2:00 – 4:30 p.m. EST. Please note that the Zoom-In is closed to press. The keynote address will be from U.S. EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan, and the event will feature discussions from senior agency officials and messages from key Members of Congress.

The Water Week partners issued the following joint statement:

“The entire water sector has united this year to urge the Administration and Congress to prioritize water. At a time when policymakers are considering increasing infrastructure investment, improving public health, spurring innovation, creating good jobs, and improving resilience—water is a common denominator.

“As the country looks to rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic, the water sector can have an outsized impact through federal water infrastructure investment.

“By addressing water as the top priority in the upcoming federal infrastructure package, Congress can help ensure that the water sector will be able to continue serving the public health and environment, as well as advance larger systemic issues such as climate resiliency and environmental justice.”
