North Scottsdale sewer project cost skyrockets

Feb 29, 2024

There’s a lot of money in sewage.

Last year, for example, the City of Scottsdale took in over $48 million in sewer service fees.

With huge projects looming, the city expects to collect far more than that in sewer fees in the coming years.

But not without putting out some money first.

At the Feb. 20 Scottsdale City Council meeting, Brian Biesemeyer, Scottsdale Water’s executive director, gave an update on a North Scottsdale sewer project.

Original budget: $6 million.

New budget: $30 million.

Not to worry, said the elected officials who unanimously – and enthusiastically – approved a budget transfer to fund the ballooning projects.
