Officials: Wastewater test detects omicron variant in Central Florida county
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The omicron variant has been detected in another area of Central Florida, officials confirmed Monday.
Officials with Orange County Utilities say omicron was detected during a preliminary Orange County wastewater test over the weekend.
They add that one result is not definitive but more information will be needed to determine if the variant is spreading within the community.
Orange County Utilities released the following statement: "A preliminary test for the Omicron variant has been developed for wastewater and is in beta-testing until fully validated by the lab analyzing the samples. Initial results indicate that the omicron variant has been detected in Orange County in the South Water Reclamation Facility and the Northwest Water Reclamation Facility. Again, these are our preliminary findings. We are expecting more definitive results on Wednesday. "
