HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) - With some leftover CARES Act funding, the Friendly City can help some people with some water and sewer bills.

The economic relief is only for those who experienced economic hardship during the pandemic from March to December. This is available for residential users and non-residential/commercial users.

City spokesperson Mike Parks said the city has about $100,000 to help with utility bills.

“This has to be for a bill processed between March 1st and the end of this year, so we really need to get those applications in by the end of this year so we can work on processing those,” Parks said.

This is a one-time opportunity and may only be used to pay water and sewer consumption and base charges. The city will not pay past due amounts prior to this time period and cannot be used by customers who have already received utility assistance through the Harrisonburg’s CARES Act partnership with People Helping People.
