White House Releases Executive Order on Water Resources

Oct 21, 2020

(October 21, 2020) – President Trump issued an Executive Order October 13 outlining a series of steps his administration will take to modernize the nation’s water resource management and water infrastructure.

Much of the order simply formalizes a number of practices that have already been in place, including the existence of an interagency water subcabinet to better coordinate the federal government’s actions on water issues.  EPA’s representative on the subcabinet has traditionally been the Assistant Administrator for Water.  However, the order also highlights the importance of a number of issues that are priorities for the clean water sector, including integrated planning, bolstering the water workforce, nutrients, and marked-based solutions to water quality challenges.

NACWA will be working with EPA to ensure the Association and its members are engaged in efforts to implement the Executive Order going forward.
