NACWA, AMWA Host Resiliency Webinar

Jun 17, 2020
(June 17, 2020) – NACWA and the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA) hosted the final installment of a complimentary 4-part webinar series Dealing with Disruption: Operationalizing Resilience in the Water Sector on June 3.

The webinar focused on “Managing Challenges Through Resilience Thinking,” with case studies from three utilities that have incorporated resilience into a wide range of operations and planning. Experiences in the U.S. and Australia were explained by Charles Stevens of KC Water and Stephen MacCarthy of Water Corporation in Australia. Natural disasters and severe pressure to diversify and protect water sources are prevalent on both continents, with the resiliency strategies and approaches taken by the utilities varying due to utility size and community needs. Jim Wollbrinck of San Jose Water provided insight into the multitude of issues utilities must consider to achieve overall resilience, including coordination with government agencies, evaluation of interdependencies with other sectors, and facilitation of mutual aid between utilities.

A recording of the webinar and related materials for this webinar, and the previous webinars in the series, are available here. For questions, please contact NACWA’s Director of Regulatory Affairs, Cynthia Finley.
