This mess of flushable wipes, paper towels, etc. had to be removed from the lift station at Bloomfield’s wastewater plant last week. With the shortage of toilet paper due to the COVID-19 pandemic, sanitation workers are struggling to keep sewer lines open. Jeremy Walker of the city’s sanitation department asks residents to be sure and bag wipes and throw them in the garbage. Though some wipes are supposedly flushable, Walker says it takes a long time for them to break down.
