Poop, ports and traffic: Most memorable comments from DeFazio roundtable on sustainable infrastructure planning
U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio earlier this week led a roundtable discussion with local political leaders and industry representatives about investing $760 billion on sustainable infrastructure and transportation over five years.
“We are drafting a transformative, service transportation bill for the 21st century,” DeFazio said Wednesday. “We’ve been living off of the Eisenhower legacy for 75 years. A lot of the ways that we are doing things hasn’t changed much. We’re still fossil-fuel based. We haven’t transformed the system.”
DeFazio, a Democrat who represents the state’s 4th Congressional District, is leading the creation of Moving America and the Environment Forward framework as chairman of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. The plan will aid the committee as it is in the process of drafting a bill for transportation infrastructure.
