NACWA Committees Address Host of Clean Water Issues

Feb 6, 2020

(February 6, 2020) – A number of NACWA’s Standing Committees met this week during the Association’s 2020 Winter Conference in Atlanta, covering a wide range of hot topics impacting the municipal clean water community.

NACWA’s Water Quality Committee, Climate & Resiliency Committee, Biosolids Management Committee, Legal Affairs Committee, and Legislative & Regulatory Policy Committee all met and held robust discussions.  Topics covered included developments in the water quality arena, efforts by utilities to improve the resiliency of their infrastructure, updates on recent legal and regulatory actions relevant to clean water agencies, and a at look the top federal legislative issues likely to impact the sector.

PFAS was also a hot topic of conversation at the conference and given that it is an issue that crosses over multiple NACWA committees there was a separate PFAS Advocacy Update and Discussion.  This meeting included an overview of current PFAS developments at the state and federal levels, including a variety of regulatory and legislative initiatives.  Participants shared perspectives on how the PFAS challenge is playing out in different parts of the country.

NACWA also hosted a special luncheon as part of the conference for utilities from EPA Region 4.  Clean water agencies from various Southeastern cities gathered to discuss common concerns and challenges and share innovations and ideas for additional collaboration.
