NACWA Briefs DC Area Public Utilities on Congressional PFAS Legislative Developments
(January 15, 2020) – Last week, NACWA staff spoke before the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG) Water Security Work Group to brief several DC area public clean water utility managers regarding ongoing PFAS legislative developments in Congress.
As part of the briefing, NACWA staff discussed last week’s efforts by the Democratic-led Majority in the House of Representatives to pass a PFAS package despite strong concerns and opposition from the public water sector.
The need for continued public clean water utility engagement with Members of Congress to ensure that moving forward, any final legislation negotiated between the House and Senate does not include onerous provisions on the sector was emphasized during this meeting.
