Congress Advances Nonpoint Source Grants Legislation

Apr 2, 2019

Capitol_Flowers(April 2, 2019) - The House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee marked up H.R. 1331 on March 27, which is a bill to reauthorize the Sec. 319 Nonpoint Source Grants Program. This legislation was sponsored by Committee Members Reps. Angie Craig (D-MN) and Brian Mast (R-FL).

The Nonpoint Source Grants Program, or Sec. 319(j) of the Clean Water Act, provides funding to states to provide technical and financial resources, monitoring, training and other assistance on-the-ground in local communities to address nonpoint source issues.

NACWA provided a letter of support for the legislation and will advocate for it to be advanced and signed into law this Congress. NACWA is committed to working collaboratively with nonpoing sources wherever possible to advance holistic, watershed-based solutions to water quality impairment, and this legislation is in line with that goal.  Contact Kristina Surfus, NACWA Legislative Affairs Director, with questions or to discuss the bill further.
