Congressional Letter Supports NACWA Request to Double State Revolving Funds

Mar 20, 2018

two(March 21, 2018) - A bipartisan letter from over 90 Members of Congress was sent to the House Interior & Environment Appropriations Subcommittee last week, requesting a doubling of the State Revolving Funds (SRFs) in Fiscal Year 2019 (FY19) over currently enacted levels. This request mirrors asks from NACWA and other water sector groups.

A doubling would equal $2.8 billion in federal appropriations for the Clean Water SRF and $1.8 billion for the Drinking Water SRF, better reflecting the nation’s true water infrastructure needs and aiding local communities in meeting the increasing demands and challenges being placed upon them. The letter was submitted to Subcommittee Chairman Ken Calvert (R-CA) and Ranking Member Betty McCollum (D-MN).

The letter was led by Congressman John Katko (R-NY) and Congresswoman Louise Slaughter, a Democratic Member from Rochester, NY, who sadly passed away on Friday, March 16. Congresswoman Slaughter was first elected to the House in 1986 and brought her background in Microbiology and Public Health to the Halls of Congress, where she rose to top positions of leadership. She was 88.

NACWA thanks both Members of Congress and their staff for their bipartisan leadership in supporting access to clean, safe water around the country.

Please contact Jason Isakovic or Kristina Surfus, NACWA’s Legislative Directors, to discuss further.
