Texas WARN Provides Harvey Recovery Assistance, Additional Help May Be Needed in Florida
After the devastating impacts of Hurricane Harvey in Texas, the Texas Water/Wastewater Agency Response Network (TXWARN) has been effective in assisting affected water and wastewater utilities with their recovery efforts. The American Water Works Association (AWWA) and WaterISAC have gathered information from WARNs in surrounding states in case any out-of-state assistance is needed for Texas utilities. A donation website for Texas utilities and personnel has been set up by TXWARN through Texas AWWA.
As the extent of damage to utilities from Hurricane Irma becomes more clear, aid from WARNs in other states may also be needed. Coordination of assistance will be conducted through the state WARNs and additional national groups, such as AWWA and WaterISAC. NACWA will keep members informed of any opportunities to provide assistance and we are also letting impacted utilities know that NACWA's Engage Peer-to-Peer site remains an additional tool to also help gather any information that may be useful to them as recovery efforts proceed.
