NACWA Promotes New Legislative Director
NACWA is pleased to announce the promotion of Kristina Surfus as the Association’s new Director of Legislative Affairs, after having served as NACWA’s Manager of Legislative Affairs since December 2015.
During her time with NACWA, Kristina has worked on a wide variety of legislative issues and played an important role in many of the Association’s legislative successes over the past two years, including preservation of critical clean water funding through the Clean Water State Revolving Loan Fund, advancement of integrated planning concepts, work on nutrients and nonpoint source control, and prevention of unnecessary regulatory requirements related to wet weather issues. She is also the staff liaison for NACWA’s Climate & Resiliency Committee.
Prior to NACWA, Kristina served as a staffer with the United States Senate. She has significant policy experience and training on water quality issues, receiving her undergraduate degree from Boston University and master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Throughout her tenure with NACWA, Kristina has shown a consistent ability to engage collaboratively and positively with Association members and staff, Members of Congress, and key stakeholders to advance the Association’s legislative priorities. We look forward to her continued work as a valued member of NACWA’s Government Affairs team. She can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org or 202.833.4655.
