Water Quality Committee Holds Call, Discusses Novel Analysis

Dec 11, 2019

(December 11, 2019) – NACWA’s Water Quality Committee held its last committee call of 2019 on December 4 and discussed a myriad of recent developments on the water quality front that will spill over into 2020.

Johanna Bell with the Association of Idaho Cities, along with HDR’s Tom Dupuis, gave an overview presentation on the use of Monte Carlo statistical analyses to develop water quality-based effluent limits (WQBELs) for clean water utilities in Idaho.

The committee discussed the various attributes of the analysis, noting it is preferred when sufficient data are available and when limits are needed to capture a receiving water’s load capacity.

The Committee also discussed EPA’s Water Quality Trading notice for comment, EPA’s rollout of the national nutrient survey, the Lead and Copper Rule, and PFAS.

Members seeking additional information about topics discussed on the call can contact Emily Remmel, NACWA’s Director of Regulatory Affairs.  The Water Quality Committee will hold its next meeting on February 4 during NACWA’s Winter Conference in Atlanta, GA.
