Coalition Sends Letter in Support of Low-Income Water Assistance Legislation

Oct 30, 2018

Water_Bill(October 30, 2018) – NACWA spearheaded a letter sent Oct. 29 to Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS) in support of their recent bipartisan legislation to pilot a federal low-income water assistance program.  The letter was signed by a broad coalition of municipal, water sector and engineering organizations.

The letter acknowledges the very real affordability challenges facing many households across the nation in paying their drinking water and clean water bills, highlights ways in which the legislation will help to address those concerns, and thanks Sens. Cardin and Wicker for their leadership on this important issue.  Other groups signing the letter include the Water Environment Federation (WEF), the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA), the American Public Works Association (APWA), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the U.S. Water Alliance, the National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA), and the California Association of Sanitation Agencies (CASA).

NACWA has been a strong proponent a federal low-income water assistance program and played a critical role in helping craft the most recent legislation.  The Association looks forward to continued work with Congress to advance this important proposal.  Any members with questions can contact Kristina Surfus or Jason Isakovic, NACWA’s legislative directors.
