May 13, 2024

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WDTV) - Local farmers in Fairmont can now apply to the Biosolids Land Application program.

The program, which is offered by the city of Fairmont Sanitary Sewer Board and the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, allows farmers to apply biosolids as fertilizer to improve soil nutrients and help plant growth. Residents who have flat meadows or pasture lands are encouraged to apply for the program, according to a release.

According to the city, the Wastewater Treatment Plant, on average, produces 400 dry tons of biosolids annually.

The city hopes to land apply all of the biosolids produced by the plant by providing it to local farmlands.
