Middleburg Heights to offer residents $2,500 grants to fix sanitary sewer issues

MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, Ohio – Even with all the preventive measures Middleburg Heights officials have taken, and continue to take, in public areas to minimize sanitary sewer backups during heavy rains, additional corrective measures on the private side could be taken by residents to remediate their problems.

That is the thought behind the Sanitary Sewer Backup Reduction (SSBR) grant program set to begin Sept. 26. It is designed to provide direct financial assistance to homeowners who experienced a sanitary sewer backup on or after July 20, 2023.

Mayor Matt Castelli and his administration hope an up-to-$2,500 incentive per household will lead to residents correcting sanitary sewer infrastructure problems in their homes. Such basement flooding must be unrelated to a failure of the owner’s private septic system.
