GOSHEN, Ind. – Goshen and Elkhart joined a growing list of Michiana cities that are asking residents to not flush the flushable wipes which officials say are clogging pipes.

Both cities have sent out flyers to local businesses to help inform the public about the issue.

The flyers say that the wipes are clogging lift stations, which cost around 30 thousand dollars to replace.

Cities are advising everyone to throw the wipes into the trash instead of flushing them.

This is another reminder of an ongoing problem in Michiana. The Cities of South Bend and Leesburg have also warned residents against flushing the so-called “flushable” wipes.

Small cities such as Leesburg are significantly impacted by the clogging, as the cost of repairs can hemorrhage the city’s already limited budget.
