Proposed sale of Harrisburg water system gets attention at meeting about stormwater fee

By next year, water and sewer customers in Harrisburg could be paying a new fee — a charge for stormwater intended to fund $315 million worth of system improvements over the next 20 years.

Before a decision is made about whether that fee is tacked on, officials at Capital Region Water, the municipal authority that runs the system, want to get their customer’s feedback. That’s why they hosted an open house-style meeting Tuesday night.

However, as a few dozen customers walked the meeting space, browsing informational posters and speaking with experts, Charlotte Katzenmoyer, the authority’s chief executive officer, said many in attendance had larger concerns: Could the water and sewer system be sold to a private owner?
