NACWA Talks with States About Funding, Financing Issues
(March 27, 2018) – NACWA was invited to speak at the Federal Policy Conference of the Council of Infrastructure Financing Authorities (CIFA) on March 27, providing a public clean water utility perspective on clean water funding and financing issues, the potential for a federal infrastructure package, and ideas for streamlining the State Revolving Fund (SRF) program. CIFA is the national organization representing state SRF authorities.
NACWA used the opportunity to discuss the importance of the recent federal spending bill increasing federal allocations for the SRFs and the need to keep building on this momentum for the Fiscal Year 2019 budget cycle. The Association also provided its perspective on recent infrastructure proposals, including one from President Trump and a competing one from Senate Democrats, and highlighted the importance of continuing to advance infrastructure investment as a bipartisan issue. Additionally, NACWA discussed suggestions for SRF streamlining that the Association has previously shared with EPA.
The American Water Works Association (AWWA) also participated in the discussion. NACWA appreciated the opportunity to speak with CIFA and looks forward to continued work with the states to address funding and finance needs for public clean water utilities.
