NACWA Discusses Clean Water Advocacy at North Carolina Pretreatment Conference

Oct 16, 2019

(October 16, 2019) – The North Carolina Pretreatment Consortium held its annual conference October 14-16 in Asheville, NC, with over 150 attendees from public clean water utilities, regulatory agencies, and private companies.  The conference provides an opportunity for pretreatment professionals to participate in training, learn about regulatory updates, hear case studies from other utilities, and network with one another.

NACWA’s Director of Regulatory Affairs, Cynthia Finley, provided an overview of current national regulatory and legislative actions that may affect utility pretreatment programs, as well as an update on the flushable wipes issue.  Effluent guideline studies, pesticides, water reuse, and PFAS were all discussed in the presentation.  In addition, a roundtable discussion was held on the wipes issues.  The dental amalgam rule was also a focus of several speakers at the conference.

NACWA always welcomes the opportunity to participate and collaborate in state or regional water-related gatherings which can advance clean water policy.  If members are interested in having NACWA staff attend a state or regional meeting in their area, please contact Kelly Brocato, NACWA’s Senior Director, Membership Development and Retention.
