LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
Metropolitan Sewer District is urging people to stop flushing items that shouldn't be flushed.
MSD Collections Supervisor, Claude Rottet, said flushable wipes are the main problem, mostly because they aren't actually flushable.
"The flushable wipes are only flushable in the sense they will clear your residential plumbing," said Rottet. "But they don't break down they cause a huge problem for us in man power and money."
MSD's Water Quality Treatment Centers have a process to separate items from the waste but items like wipes can cause major damage to pipes and equipment.
"When we break items it's very expensive and if customers want to keep bills down, that's a way they could help us control our cost," said Rottet.
