Florida Senators Send Letter Highlighting Importance of Water Sector Resiliency

Sep 26, 2017

seven(September 26, 2017) - Florida Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Bill Nelson (D-FL) issued a letter to EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt on September 20, requesting that EPA continue—and increase—its efforts to assist the state and local governments in getting water and wastewater utilities back online in the wake of Hurricane Irma.  The letter also specifically requested that EPA target use of the State Revolving Funds (SRFs) to enhance “the capacity and resilience of drinking water, stormwater, and wastewater systems to weather future disasters.”

This document is likely to be the first of many congressional requests in the coming weeks and months with regards to increasing resiliency of water sector infrastructure, as lessons are learned from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

NACWA will continue to engage with Congress and EPA on these important matters.
