House Introduces Biogas Bill

Jun 13, 2017

fourLast week, Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI) introduced the bipartisan Agriculture Environmental Stewardship Act to promote the use of sustainable biogas facilities. The legislation, H.R. 2853, amends the federal tax code to provide a 30% Investment Tax Credit to biogas facilities that deploy nutrient recovery and recycling initiatives. In addition to promoting resource recovery programs, the bill will incentivize the production of pipeline-quality renewable natural gas.

In the Senate, the bill’s companion, S. 988, was recently introduced by Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS). Both bills have been referred to their respective committees for review and possible votes later this summer, as part of the tax reform process. NACWA will continue to monitor the bill’s progress through Congress, and will keep members apprised of any updates. If you have any questions about the legislation, please contact NACWA’s Legislative Affairs Director, Kristina Surfus, for more information.
