State & Regional Organizations Discuss State Advocacy Toolkit, National Advocacy Developments

Dec 11, 2018

Advocacy_001_reszd(December 11, 2018) - NACWA hosted a conference call on December 3 with the Association’s State & Regional Exchange network, where representatives from various state and regional clean water organizations discussed ongoing national advocacy issues.

Scotty Berry, Director of Policy & Government Affairs for the US Water Alliance, joined the call to share that the Alliance is developing a State Policymakers Toolkit, which will be released later this month.  Mr. Berry explained that the toolkit is based on the Alliance’s Seven Big Ideas for Water, and provides examples and suggestions for state lawmakers for implementing the Ideas.  NACWA provided input on the Toolkit, which will be a valuable tool in educating state lawmakers about issues of importance to the water sector.

NACWA staff also provided updates on the Association’s national advocacy efforts including recent developments on the Farm Bill, the federal Fiscal Year 2019 budget, blending, and the recently issued general NPDES permit for small municipal separate storm sewer systems (MS4s) in Oregon.

If you are involved with a state or regional group that would be interested in joining this coalition, please contact Erica Spitzig, NACWA Deputy General Counsel.
