Clean Water Current

(March 6, 2018) - NACWA joined the Illinois Association of Wastewater Agencies (IAWA) for its Spring Mini-Conference in Springfield, IL on February 28, to provide an update on the latest developments, from the federal level, on infrastructure funding, budget development, integrated planning and affordability, and a range of other policy issues that will impact the water sector.

A top discussion item was EPA’s forthcoming survey on the nutrient removal performance of secondary treatment, whether Illinois utilities should complete the survey and what implications there may be in the future once the Agency has the information.

IAWA’s meeting provides its members an opportunity to engage with lawmakers in the capital city on a range of issues, including efforts to recover from its recent budget crisis, which has had an impact on all state services and its pension programs.  Like the country as a whole, Illinois’ water community is also working on issues related to nutrient pollution and how to address fragmentation in the water sector.
