Clean Water Current

(October 31, 2017) - NACWA’s Board of Directors met October 25 for their fall meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah and discussed a number of key strategic issues currently facing the Association.  Central among the Board’s discussions was approval of four new projects from NACWA’s Targeted Action Fund (TAF):

• Continued NACWA participation in litigation over the use of permit variances in Montana related to nutrient limits.
• Participation in new litigation over whether a sewage backup seeping into groundwater can cause utility liability under the Clean Water Act.
• Participation in new litigation to defend the District of Columbia’s law on flushable wipes from a legal challenge filed by the wipes industry. 
• Support of EPA’s effort to hold additional Effective Utility Management workshops around the country.

These projects will help to advance NACWA’s advocacy in a number of critical areas.  The TAF, which is supported by NACWA member dues, provides the financial foundation for the Association’s advocacy agenda. 

The NACWA Board and key committee leaders also engaged in broader strategic planning discussions last week, including potential updates to the Association’s Strategic Plan.   These conversations will be address in more detail in a future edition of the NACWA Connect.
