SALINEVILLE — With the village in line to receive about $63,400 for it’s first traunch of American Rescue Plan Act money, Salineville is considering using some of the money as a possible match for a wastewater system improvement project.

After having a smoke test on the sewer collection lines completed in November of 2020 by the Great Lakes Rural Community Assistance Program, the village now knows where some of the problems lie that are responsible for the excessive inflow and infiltration of storm water into the sewer system.

Mayor Linda Adams and BPA President Chad Bettis spoke to council about possibly applying for grant money and using some of the ARPA funds as a match for a project to get engineering work done to address many of the issues. The total estimated engineering design costs for the project would be about $280,000 with $30,000 of it coming from the local ARPA grant funds the village is set to receive.

The remaining cost may come through an ARPA Ohio Water and Waste Water Infrastructure Grant, for which Adams asked council for permission to complete the paperwork to apply prior to the next meeting. She also said she knows of another possible source for funding, but wanted to start with this one.
