The city of Jackson has filed a lawsuit against a company it alleges dumped millions of gallons of industrial waste into the city's wastewater system for years.

The lawsuit, filed Wednesday against Gold Coast Commodities, a fats and oils refinery in Brandon, follows investigations by the state environmental arm that detailed numerous violations against the company, beginning in 2016, and a separate lawsuit filed by the city of Brandon in 2018.

Attorneys for the city allege the company, which has been in operation since 1983, consistently dumped corrosive waste into the sewer system near its facility in Brandon. Those sewer lines are connected to Jackson's system and the wastewater from the facility runs downstream to the city's wastewater treatment plants, according to the lawsuit.
