(KNSI) - St. Cloud's sewer system is taking a beating but hasn't had any significant issues since the stay at home order went into effect.

Public Services Director Tracy Hodel says a big reason has been because they're proactive.

"We are have increased the cleaning schedule. We've been getting some calls saying why are there some many sewer cleaning trucks out here? Is this an essential service? Absolutely it is an essential service. We're doing what we can to prevent any issues from happening."

She says even though there haven't been any significant problems, the system is being forced to work harder.

"We have seen a significant increase, about a 30-percent increase in the amount of product screened at our main lift station."

She says that's surprising because there are fewer people in St. Cloud right now.
