MACOMB — The topic of building a wall at our southern border may be at the forefront of many a conversation due to its connection to a recent funding bill, but improving the infrastructure already in place around the country is still on the radar of the administration and legislators.
Bipartisan legislation was approved Dec. 19 in the House for the Water Infrastructure Improvement Act. The legislation, co-sponsored by Congresswoman Cheri Bustos, D-Moline, formalizes the process for communities to create integrated plans for water infrastructure improvements. Peoria is among the cities around the nation to recently address the issue of combined sewer overflow through investment in modernized infrastructure.
“With an aging water infrastructure, it is more important than ever to make the necessary investments in the long-term health and well-being of our communities,” Bustos said. “By making commonsense changes to how we modernize and invest in our water infrastructure, we can set up communities to succeed for the future. I’m glad that innovative cities such as Peoria will be able to leverage this program to revitalize our community to generate good-paying, green jobs.”
