COLUMBUS – A legislative panel tasked with looking at the health of Lake Erie closed its last meeting Monday without recommendations for the full General Assembly.
Instead of suggesting legislation, the chairmen of Toward A Cleaner Lake Erie Working Group said that representatives of agriculture – which studies have shown contributes to harmful algae blooms that affect fishing, tourism and drinking water for millions of Ohioan -- are meeting with each other, researchers and conservation groups to find more consensus on how to limit manure and fertilizer from getting into the lake.
